Crispy Frozen Pizza Rolls in An Air Fryer

I love vegan pizza rolls. They’re warm, 'cheesy', satisfying, and a bite-sized pizza treat. And now you can enjoy them even sooner by ditching the oven and turning to an air fryer. These air fryer pizza rolls cook in less than half the time, at just seven minutes (much to everyone’s delight when I’m feeling ‘hangry’)!

Even better, there’s no need to preheat the machine when air frying pizza rolls. Instead, just open the box, chuck them in the air fryer, and cook until crispy outside and gooey in the middle. This also means you can enjoy the air-fried pizza rolls in less time than it would have taken you to preheat your oven!

Serve them with your favorite dipping sauces and other simple snacks like these vegan jalapeno poppers or air fryer nachos for a wonderful treat!

Oven vs. Microwave vs. Air Frying Pizza Rolls

Most packs of frozen pizza rolls come with a set of three instructions for the oven, a toaster oven, and microwave. However, having made pizza rolls hundreds (and hundreds) of times, I’d argue that air-fried pizza rolls are the way to go.

Microwaving is not impressive. While they end up warm (so there is that, at least), they’re soggy, limp, and overall just a little sad.

The baked version is better but still often slightly soggy and unevenly cooked. I’d gotten used to this… until I tried cooking the pizza rolls in the air fryer. I’m never going back!

The air fryer circulates the air all the way around this bite-sized snack and provides results that are crispy, golden brown, evenly cooked, and ready in just minutes. Plus, unlike deep frying methods (which also exist), this version requires no additional oil, but the results are wonderfully crispy pizza rolls every time!

    The Ingredients

All you need for this air fryer frozen pizza rolls recipe is any pack of frozen vegan pizza rolls.

    • Vegan pizza rolls: Use your favorite brand. I.e., Amy’s (available at Whole Foods), Morning Star (in several stores), etc.

How to Cook Pizza Rolls In An Air Fryer?

I’m not sure this air fried pizza rolls recipe could get simpler if it tried.

    • 1) First, preheat the air fryer to 370F/188C.
    • 2) Then, spread the pizza rolls in a single layer in your air fryer basket, with space in between.

    • 3) Air fry the pizza rolls for 4 minutes, shake the basket, then cook for a further 3 minutes. Allow them to cool for a few minutes for eating, as the filling will be scalding hot.

    FAQs

    Why is the filling oozing?

This may mean that they’re being overcooked. If that’s the case, next time, try air frying them for just 5-6 minutes and see if you have the same issue.

You could also use a toothpick to poke holes in them and allow the steam to escape (do this when you shake the basket).

Do I need to thaw them first?

No, you can cook them from frozen. However, if you have a non-frozen version, reduce the air fryer time by 2-3 minutes.

What to eat with air fryer pizza rolls?

I love serving them as a snack with a dipping sauce like ketchup, BBQ sauce, pizza/marinara sauce, vegan ranch dressing, salsa, garlic dip, etc.

You could also serve them up like nachos, topped with shredded vegan cheese, salsa, guacamole, etc. They’re delicious this way!

Otherwise, serve them as part of a party spread with your other favorites, like vegan buffalo cauliflower wings, jalapeno poppers, chips and dip, etc.

Can I reheat the pizza rolls?

I recommend enjoying them immediately for the best texture. However, any leftover pizza rolls will store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for an extra 2-3 days.

Reheat the leftovers for just 2-3 minutes in the air fryer.

Do I need to preheat my air fryer?

It isn’t necessary with my machine brand, but if you’d prefer to do so, it wouldn’t hurt.

    Top Recipe Tips and Notes

    • Don’t overcrowd the basket: This is practically the golden rule with all air fryer recipes. Spread the vegan pizza rolls in an even, single layer with space in between. The airflow needs to surround the snack for crispy, even cooking.
    • For easier clean-up: You could place a layer of perforated parchment paper (or an air fryer specific parchment insert) at the bottom of your air fryer. That way, if any of the pizza rolls ooze filling, it’s super easy to clean up.
    • For extra crispy results: Spray each of the frozen pizza rolls with oil spray (not cooking spray) before air frying them.
    • Cooking time may vary: Based on your type and air fryer model. So keep an eye on the vegan pizza bites to avoid burning them.
    • Allow them to cool slightly: I DON’T recommend attempting to eat these air fryer pizza rolls immediately unless you want to burn away the roof of your mouth… Instead, give them a few minutes to cool and then test one out.
