Recipe Variations and Add-Ins
- Salt: A pinch of salt enhances the oat flavor and balances sweetness.

- Chia seeds: Add one tablespoon for thickness, fiber, protein, and omega-3s.

FAQs
While there's no need to heat them, since the soaking time softens the oats, you could microwave them for 1-2 minutes, if preferred.
I don't recommend it, as they require much longer to soak and have a slightly different ingredient ratio (which I haven't tested just yet).
Honestly, it depends on your preferred texture. I recommend a minimum of 3-4 hours. At that point, it'll be soupier with oats that still have some bite/chew. Personally, I find 7-8 hours is the sweet spot for tender, creamy oats.
Pro Recipe Tips
- Firmer vs. softer oats: Adjust the soaking time. 3-4 hours leave a soupier mix with firmer oats. 8 hours is my 'tender' sweet spot.
- Adjust liquid as needed: Oats too thick after soaking? Add more plant milk!
- Sweeten to taste: The peanut butter and berry preserves may be sweet enough, but taste and adjust as needed.
- For a flavor boost: Add PB powder! It adds concentrated flavor, fiber, protein, and significantly fewer calories (like ¼th)and fat than PB.
- Only add toppings when serving: Otherwise, they soften (especially granola/nuts) and become a little… icky. Likewise, fresh ingredients (like fruit) can affect the shelf life - I had to learn that one the hard way.

How to Store Overnight Oats
Store overnight oats in airtight containers or covered with plastic wrap in the refrigerator for 4-5 days, only adding toppings before serving.
You can also freeze the base overnight oats with peanut butter for up to 3 months. Then, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight. Stir well, top, and enjoy.
Pro tip: Meal prepping? Use stackable containers! They save space, and there's less chance of anything falling/causing a mess.
