Vibrant immune-boosting apple orange carrot juice with ginger — Packed with antioxidants, + skin, hair, and immune-boosting benefits and ready using a juicer or blender in minutes! A perfect start to your morning!
Fresh and Vibrant Apple Orange Carrot Juice
Having recently shared my current favorite immunity-boosting juice, which combines apples, ginger, and carrots with two types of orange, chili, and turmeric, I decided to share an even simpler but super delicious apple orange carrot juice recipe, too.
This simple orange and carrot juice is naturally sweetened with the addition of a Fuji apple with a subtle spicy depth thanks to fresh ginger. The result is an immune juice that tastes fantastic while packed with vitamins and minerals and still boasting with immune-boosting, gut-friendly, and overall health-boosting benefits. Perfect for sipping on year-round to keep your body working at 100%!
You don't even need a juicer to create this orange apple carrot juice. In fact, I've shared two methods below: one with a juicer and one with a high-speed blender. And, best of all, this orange carrot juice is easy to tweak to your liking, quick and simple to prepare, and retains maximum nutrients as it's made fresh to drink!
What Are The Carrot and Orange Juice Benefits?
When thinking about oranges and carrots, vitamin C and vitamin A instantly come to mind. But what exactly do the various ingredients in this immune juice bring to the table?
- Carrots: Carrots provide vitamin C, K, and potassium and are a rich source of the antioxidant vitamin A. This helps to provide several impressive health benefits, including immunity boosting, blood sugar control, eye health, skin health, heart health, brain function, and anti-cancerous effects.
- Oranges: Along with the impressive vitamin C content, oranges also contain potassium, calcium, and folate and can decrease inflammation, reduce the risk of kidney stones, and even improve heart health.
- Apple: Apples not only help naturally sweeten the carrot and orange juice blend but are also highly nutritious. They're rich in fiber, several vitamins and minerals, and polyphenols (antioxidants) that fight harmful free radicals in the body. This combination is beneficial for heart health, inflammation, and cancer prevention. More so, the polyphenols in Fuji apples may even prevent heart and liver injury by lowering blood cholesterol levels.
- Ginger: The list of ginger health benefits is plentiful. The compound 'gingerol' found in ginger is linked with several medicinal properties, including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Ginger can also be beneficial for nausea, digestive health, blood sugar control, heart health, brain health, cold and flu busting, and even reducing menstrual pain!
Are there any side effects?
The main side effect worth noting is only an issue if you drink too much carrot juice over a prolonged period. When doing so, the beta-carotene in the juice can cause your skin to take on an orange shade, like the carrots.
Aside from that, the other point to note is that consuming large amounts of juice can mean consuming large amounts of sugar (albeit natural sugars in the fruits), which may adversely affect your health when over-consumed.
The Juice Ingredients
Just four ingredients make up this immune orange carrot juice, including:
- Oranges: I used a Navel orange, but you can experiment with what's in season.
- Carrot: I recommend using organic carrots; no need to peel.
- Apple: I used a Fuji apple (organic is best) for its sweet flavor. Honey crisp would also work. Feel free to experiment with other types, too.
- Ginger: Fresh ginger root (or a pinch of dried ginger powder) has a robust, spicy flavor and packs in a ton of health benefits. However, omit it if preferred.
- Ice cubes: (optional) Serve the juice over ice for an instant chilled juice.
Omit the apple for a more robust immune-boosting orange, carrot, and ginger juice!
What Else Could I add?
Several ingredients pair wonderfully with this orange apple carrot juice blend to make an immunity-boosting juice. However, you could also experiment with:
- Other fruits: Several fruits pair wonderfully with oranges and apples. However, my favorites include
- Pineapple
- Mango
- Vegetables: You can also boost the immune juice with extra veggies, including
- Cucumber
- Celery
- Beets
- A handful of spinach or kale
- Sweetener: If you prefer the juice to be even sweeter, add a small amount of maple, agave, or your desired sweetener.
- Cinnamon: Cinnamon pairs wonderfully with the apple and orange juice and contains anti-viral, antibacterial, and anti-fungal effects along with blood pressure and blood sugar control.
- Lime juice: A splash of lime juice (or lemon juice) added when serving the orange carrot juice adds brightness and antibacterial and anti-viral effects to the juice.
- Chia seeds will plump up in the juice to add texture, protein, and heart-healthy omega fatty acids.
- Liquid Zinc: Add ½ teaspoon of liquid zinc for additional immune support and to help fight bacteria and viruses in the body.
How to Make Apple Carrot Orange Juice?
Juicer Method
- 1) First, wash the produce well and chop them into pieces small enough to fit your juicer chute. You can peel the orange, though it isn't necessary when using a juicer.
- 2) Feed the ingredients through your juicer chute, then mix the juice and serve it immediately at room temperature or over ice- enjoy!
For 'instant' chilled juice, I recommend refrigerating the ingredients overnight before juicing them.
Blender Method
If you don't own a juicer, no fear—you can also prepare this carrot and orange juice with a high-speed blender. All it requires is a couple of recipe tweaks.
- First, wash and chop the produce into small pieces and transfer them to a high-speed blender with ½ cup of water.
Alternatively, you can use a citrus juicer to juice the oranges and add just a splash of water to the blender.
- Blend the mixture until fully pureed. For a pulp-free juice, strain it through several layers of cheesecloth, a fine-mesh strainer, or a nut milk bag, then enjoy!
FAQs
Consume the juice 30 minutes before breakfast, on an empty stomach, for optimal nutrient absorption. However, you can technically enjoy the orange carrot apple juice at any time of the day.
It's fine to consume this juice every day. However, if doing so, I recommend drinking just ½ glass of juice daily. Otherwise, the beta-carotene in the carrot juice could cause the skin to turn yellow-orange.
I used navel oranges (which are seedless, wonderfully sweet, and juicy) in this immune juice, as it's what I had on hand. However, it's important to note that navel oranges contain a compound that becomes more bitter over time and is best consumed within 24 hours.
You can experiment with any type of orange for this juice, though. My other favorites include:
Valencia oranges: These are naturally sweet, contain few seeds, are available most of the year, and won't become bitter.
Blood oranges: While in season, blood oranges are a great option as they're packed with antioxidants and have a sweet-tart flavor and beautiful pink-red color.
Tangerines OR Clementines: Available almost year-round, small, sweet, and juicy.
When using a juicer, there's no need to peel the oranges, as they can actually add extra vitamins and minerals to the juice. However, the peel can also add a bitter flavor to the juice, so it's up to you.
Top Recipe Tips and Notes
- Use organic produce: I highly recommend using organic produce if you consume a lot of juice, as many juiced ingredients contain lots of pesticides.
- Save the pulp: It's packed with gut-healthy fiber and can be added to smoothies and baked goods like muffins and bread. You can also dry it and use it for crackers, etc.
- Adjust the ratio of ingredients: Based on your desired flavor profile. For example, add more/less ginger for zing, orange juice for tang, apple for sweetness, carrot as a light, 'diluting' ingredient to the juice, etc.
- Pulpy vs. smooth: Strain out as much or little of the pulp as you prefer from the orange carrot juice.
- Dilute the juice if preferred: For a thinner consistency and lighter, subtler flavor. This is great if you aren't used to a robust ginger flavor.
Storage Instructions
Fridge: Consume the immune orange carrot juice immediately for maximum nutrient absorption. Any leftovers will store in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator for a further 3-4 days.
However, note that a compound in navel oranges causes the juice to become more bitter over time, so it is best consumed within 24 hours.
Freezer: I love to freeze fresh homemade juices to help retain nutrients. You can do this in a Ziplock/Stasher bag (squeeze out excess air), in freezer-safe jars (leaving 2-inches of headspace), or in a large silicone ice-cube tray (then transferred to a Ziplock/Stasher bag). Store it for 2-3 months.
You can thaw the juice in the fridge or on the counter.
