Why You'll Love Hummus Sauce for Pasta
I've made hummus into hummus dressing, love making hummus wraps (like these easy vegan hummus wraps) and sandwiches, and hummus falafels. This is probably the best use yet.
It's made by combining creamy hummus, pasta, and a simple mix of Mediterranean vegetables (or whatever you have on hand!) for an easy and satisfying dish. Plus, it's ready to enjoy in just 20 minutes.
This is just the latest in my rotation of quick, easy pasta dishes, like this creamy gochujang pasta, garlic and lemon pasta, and Tuscan white bean pasta.
The Ingredients

I've had great success using roasted red pepper, beetroot, and caramelized onion hummus varieties.
Recipe Variations
Along with using flavored hummus, there are plenty of ways to adapt this ultra-versatile recipe.
- Aromatics: Sautéed garlic and/or onion.
- Seasonings: Smoked paprika, ground cumin, cayenne pepper/red pepper flakes, or even curry powder.
- Pesto: Stir in or drizzle pesto (like this easy walnut pesto).
- Other vegetables: i.e., steamed, sauteed, roasted, or grilled asparagus, zucchini, peppers, eggplant, broccoli, cauliflower, artichoke, etc.
- Spinach/Kale: Add a few handfuls at the end.
- Toppings: Like toasted pine nuts or vegan feta/parmesan.
How to Make Hummus Pasta

Step 1: Cook the pasta until al dente (1-2 minutes less than the package directions state). Meanwhile, chop the fresh and sun-dried tomatoes, and mince the basil. Drain it, reserving ½-1 cup of pasta water, then return both to the pot.
Step 2: Stir in the hummus and lemon juice. Add the tomatoes, olives, and minced basil. Taste and adjust the lemon and seasoning (salt), then enjoy!
For more flavor, cook pasta in salted water or low-sodium vegetable broth.
FAQs
Simply chill the hummus pasta, add fresh veggies (like cucumber - so they don't 'wilt' in the hot pasta), and enjoy!
Pro Recipe Tips
- Cook the pasta al dente: To ensure it doesn't become too soft/mushy once mixed with the hot hummus pasta sauce.
- Reserve pasta water: The starchy liquid helps the sauce cling to the pasta, while loosening hummus into a sauce.
- For the smoothest sauce: If the hummus is a little chunky, blend it for a smoother consistency.
- For a thicker/thinner sauce: Adjust how much pasta water you use.

How to Store?
Leftovers will store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. The sauce thickens when chilled, so add a splash of water/broth before reheating or serving.

What Can I Serve With Hummus Pasta?
Serve it warm, at room temperature, or as a chilled hummus pasta salad, either alone or with:
- A simple side salad (like a leafy salad, tomato and cucumber salad, this vegan Greek salad, or this easy vegan coleslaw)
- Mezze-inspired dishes (Like stuffed vine leaves, spanakopita, olives, and more)
- Bread (like slices of crusty bread, air fryer garlic bread, vegan naan, or pita)
- Add a plant protein (I like to add crispy chickpeas, crispy tofu/marinated tofu, or another vegan meat alternative, etc.)
