Why You'll Love This Recipe
Today, I'm setting aside classic Ninja Creami vanilla ice cream and vegan chocolate ice cream for something a little different: Ninja Creami banana ice cream. Lovingly nicknamed banana nice cream, it's a healthier, plant-based alternative to dairy-based ice cream made entirely of frozen bananas instead of heavy cream, eggs, and refined sugar.
This Ninja Creami version is far more hands-off and completely eliminates the risk of gumminess, creating a smoother, creamier, more scoopable texture. The re-spin function makes it easy to prepare ahead and enjoy for days, while the mix-ins setting evenly distributes add-ins without pulverizing them.
Best of all, you don't need to pre-blend the bananas, and the recipe is super customizable! You might also enjoy Ninja Creami Dole whip, more traditional Ninja Creami vegan strawberry ice cream, or vegan peach ice cream.
The Ingredients
Please refer to the recipe card for the full list of ingredients and quantities.

Optionally add a pinch of salt to balance and enhance the overall flavor.
Banana Nice Cream Flavor Variations
- Sweetener: If the banana isn't sweet enough, add maple syrup, agave, date paste, or your preferred sweetener.
- Cocoa powder: Add 1-2 tablespoon regular or Dutch-process cocoa powder for chocolate nice cream. Add espresso powder, too, for mocha flavor.
- Nut butter: Add 1-2 tablespoons almond, cashew, or peanut butter. This adds richness, protein, heart-healthy fats, and flavor. Tahini also works.
- Creaminess: Add a splash of full-fat coconut milk for creamier ice cream.
- Fruit: There are several yummy options like strawberry banana nice cream, mango, raspberry, mixed berry, peach, pineapple, etc.
- Spices: Like cinnamon, chai spice, pumpkin pie spice, gingerbread spice, etc.
- Mix-ins: Only add after the first spin. I.e., crushed Oreos, gingersnaps, or Biscoff, vegan chocolate chips/chunks, crushed nuts, chopped fruit (mango, pineapple, peach, berries, etc.), toasted coconut, pretzels, etc.
- Protein powder: Add vegan plain, vanilla, banana, chocolate, or peanut butter protein with an extra splash of plant-based milk.
- Swirls: Like Biscoff, jam, syrups (like this raspberry syrup), vegan chocolate spread, salted caramel, or fruit compote.
How to Make Banana Ice Cream (Ninja Creami)

Step 1: Slice the bananas and pack them into a Ninja Creami pint container, leaving as little empty space as possible. Start with two bananas, then add more if needed, until you reach the Max Fill line. Freeze on a flat surface for 12-24 hours until completely solid.
Step 2: Remove the pint from the freezer and let it sit at room temp for 5 minutes. Insert the pint into the Ninja Creami outer bowl, lock it in place, and process on the 'Lite Ice Cream' or 'Sorbet' setting. Serve the banana nice cream immediately or re-freeze for 30-60 minutes for a firmer, scoopable consistency. Enjoy!
If crumbly, add 1-2 tbsps. plant-based milk/cream and use 'RE-SPIN' setting. Repeat if needed.
FAQs
Traditionally, nice cream recipes have you freeze chopped banana and then process it in a high-speed blender, using the tamper and pausing to scrape down the sides to ensure even blending.
This is totally normal for banana-based ice cream, as it contains far less fat than dairy-based ice cream. Simply add 1-2 tablespoon vegan milk or cream and 'RE-SPIN' until creamy.
Create a well in the center of the nice cream, add the mix-ins, and press 'MIX-INS.'
Pro Recipe Tips
- Use very ripe bananas: Overripe bananas with plenty of spots = the creamiest texture and sweetest flavor.
- Don't overfill: Don't exceed the Max Fill line to ensure proper processing without machine damage.
- Freeze fully: The base must be fully solid before spinning.
- Re-spin if needed: Let it sit at room temp for 10-15 minutes before spinning. If it's still crumbly, add 1-2 tablespoon vegan milk/cream and 'RE-SPIN'. Repeat if needed.
- To adjust consistency: For a softer texture, add some plant-based milk/cream. For a firmer texture, freeze the spun nice cream for 30-60 minutes.

The Best Banana Ice Cream Toppings
- Vegan chocolate (Use chips, chunks, shavings, chocolate sauce, or a magic chocolate shell)
- Fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, pomegranate seeds, fresh or grilled mango, pineapple, or peaches, banana slices, kiwi, etc.)
- For crunch (Toasted coconut, chopped/candied nuts, crushed cookies, granola, pretzels, cinnamon streusel, etc.).
- Sauces (Like fruity sauces, syrups, coulis, or compote, salted caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, nut butter, maple syrup, etc.)
Enjoy the Ninja Creami banana ice cream alone, in an ice cream sundae, and over a warm brownie (like these salted caramel brownies or vegan brookies) or pancakes/waffles (like these easy vegan banana waffles).
Storage Instructions
Level the surface, add the lid, and freeze leftover Ninja Creami banana ice cream for 2-3 weeks for the best texture/flavor.
To enjoy, let the banana nice cream sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes, then re-process using the 'ICE CREAM' setting.
